  1. The first successful picture was developed in 1827 by Niépce, it took 8 hours to expose. Two years later Niépce joined Daguerre in a partnership, but he died only four years later.

  2. The first successful photographic process was Daguerreotype. The Daguerreotype was developed by Louis Daguerre. It was discovered by accident in 1835. In 1837 the process was fixed and it was announced to the public in 1839.

  3. James Clerk Maxwell began working with color in 1860, by taking three exposures, each one with a different color filter (red, green, blue), and then projecting the three images using three lanterns with the corresponding filters.

  4. George Eastman introduced the flexible film in 1884. His contributions made photography accesible for all.

  5. The first box camera was produced by George Eastman in 1886, but it was way too costly. Two years later, in 1888, four years after he created the first flexible film, the first Kodak box camera hit the streets. It was an instant success.

When learning about the still image you take in alot of  new information which can change the way your photography or photographs turn out. In photgraphy there is alot to be learned about aperature and shutter speed, changing these can dramatically change your images.  Aperature is an opening that changes in size to admit more or less light into your images. The numbers on the aperature control are called F-stops, the larger the F-stop the smaller the opening. Shuttter speed is the amount of time the light is entering the aperature is allowed to meet the film sensor. These two both rely on eachother to get the perfect image.  I really started to understand this when we started using our pin hole cameras. In order to get the right image we had to calculate our cameras F-stop which would then tell us how long our exposure time was, or when the sutter was to open and close. Getting this correct effects the brightness of the images. I also got to learn alot about negative images explaing how light travels and the lengthy process to change them to positives.
